OKTOBERFEST 2005
THE TRADITION BEGINS

Before Ernest August of Hannover united the Germanic tribes in 1505, regional clans laid down their arms and celebrated the peace with a fest! The largest of these celebrations was held each year in what is known as the thriving metropolis of Munich, or Munchen to the Deutsch.

Indelibly this celebration endured for hundreds of years, growing to become the largest fest of its kind in the world. Oktoberfest as it is known today, sees visitors from across the globe joining together for this momentous occasion in September and early October.

Your Phi Kappa Tau connection for fun, philanthropy and learning in Europe, the EAA, wants you to join us for our first annual, signature event! This year, we're holding our events with Hofbräu Fest tent. For more information on Hofbräu, click here. Fist, you must have registered with our website. • Tips:

  • In Europe as a whole, credit cards aren't used at most restaurants or events. Oktoberfest, and more to the point, Hofbräu, is a cash only enterprise. There are numerous ATMs, but they more than likely will not handle ATM-only cards from the States. Visa, along with the major stateside cards will be good for cash withdrawals. Most businesses, including restaurants do not accept credit cards.
  • The weather in Germany changes rapidly. In any given day, you can experience all four seasons. Unexpected snow and hail storms are commonplace, even in the summertime!! Pack for all four seasons, as you'll be glad you did.
  • Be smart and don't carry a wallet in your back pocket. Oktoberfest is just like any other crowded fair ground the world over.
  • We are sending out packets via email with receipts for the Oktoberfest tables at Hofbräu, and other useful information as well. Carry this packet with you at all times once you've received it. Should you arrive late to the tent or leave the tent for any reason, you'll need to prove that you have a seat inside in order to get back in.
  • More to come...

We hope to see you in Munich!
